Heads up, Facebook Live creators! If you’re a regular user of Facebook’s live streaming feature, it’s important to be aware of upcoming changes to their video storage policies. While Facebook Live has been a fantastic tool for connecting with audiences in real-time, these policy shifts might impact how long your valuable live content is stored on the platform.
While Facebook hasn’t always been crystal clear on the specifics or timelines of every storage policy adjustment, it’s a common practice for platforms to periodically review and optimize their storage infrastructure. This can sometimes lead to changes in how long older, less-viewed content is retained.
Why This Matters for You:
- Valuable Content Could Be Lost: If you rely solely on Facebook’s storage, older live videos containing important information, engaging discussions, or memorable moments could potentially be removed.
- Limited Control: You have less control over the long-term preservation of your content when it’s solely hosted on a third-party platform.
- Platform Dependence: Changes in Facebook’s policies, even if not directly about storage, can impact how your videos are displayed or accessed in the future.
Smart Alternatives for Your Precious Live Streams:
Don’t let the uncertainty of platform storage dictate the lifespan of your valuable video content! Here are some reliable alternatives you can use to back up and archive your Facebook Live videos, giving you greater control and peace of mind:
-
Google Drive: A versatile cloud storage solution that offers ample free space (with options for paid upgrades). You can easily download your Facebook Live videos and upload them to Google Drive for secure and long-term storage. Its sharing features also allow you to embed videos on websites or share them privately.
-
Microsoft OneDrive: Integrated seamlessly with Windows and offering generous storage options (especially for Microsoft 365 subscribers), OneDrive is another excellent choice for backing up your video files. Its robust file management and sharing capabilities make it a strong contender.
-
Amazon Prime Photos & Video (for Prime Members): If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you likely already have access to Amazon Photos, which offers unlimited photo storage and a certain amount of video storage (check your plan details). This can be a convenient option for archiving your live streams, especially if you’re already invested in the Amazon ecosystem.
How to Take Control of Your Facebook Live Videos:
- Download Your Videos: Regularly download your important Facebook Live videos directly from your Facebook Page or profile. Facebook usually provides an option to download the video file after the live stream has ended or from your video library.
- Choose Your Storage Solution: Select one (or multiple) of the alternative storage options mentioned above that best suits your needs and technical comfort level.
- Upload and Organize: Upload your downloaded video files to your chosen storage platform. Organize them logically with clear naming conventions and folders for easy access in the future.
- Consider Embedding: Instead of solely relying on Facebook for viewing, consider embedding your archived videos from your chosen storage platform onto your website or other online channels where you have more control.
Don’t wait until it’s too late! Take proactive steps today to safeguard your valuable Facebook Live content. By utilizing alternative storage solutions, you can ensure your videos remain accessible for years to come, regardless of platform policy changes.
Serious about sustainability
At Togel, sustainability is built into the way we deliver every project. We understand that our clients are looking for more than just a finished space—they want solutions that are efficient, responsible, and built with the future in mind.
Our approach focuses on reducing environmental impact while helping clients manage costs and meet their own sustainability goals. From the materials we source to how we operate on site, we aim to make smarter decisions that benefit both the project and the wider environment.
We actively monitor and manage key areas such as energy use, waste, water consumption, and carbon emissions. By doing so, we not only reduce environmental impact but also help improve project efficiency and long-term value.
Strong environmental performance is increasingly important across the industry, and we work closely with our clients to ensure sustainability is considered at every stage—from planning through to delivery.
Key actions we take
Sustainable sourcing & waste reduction:
We work with trusted suppliers, prioritise sustainable materials, and minimise waste through careful planning and efficient procurement.
Energy & carbon reduction:
We reduce energy consumption through efficient equipment, LED lighting, regular monitoring, and responsible site practices, including smarter travel and material reuse.
Protecting natural resources:
We manage water use carefully, reduce material waste, limit unnecessary packaging, and ensure materials are stored and handled responsibly.
Supporting local communities:
We aim to minimise disruption on site, work with local suppliers where possible, and follow best practice standards such as the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
